In 2007 UNM will be migrating from the Verity Ultraseek search engine to a Google Search Appliance.

Due to the large number of websites on the UNM campus and the effective crawling capabilities of the Google Search Appliance we are asking that departments and organizations register the websites they would like indexed. The registration of websites provides a few benefits:

  • Provides contact information for each web site
  • Prevents the indexing of personal or desktop web servers
  • Prevents the indexing of the same website through multiple URLs
  • Helps prevent the indexing of common online manuals and endless content

You can control how the Google Search Appliance will interact with your website by making use of a robots.txt file on your web server or by using the robots META tag on individual pages.
